Endowment Fund

OUR Parish's endowment fund receives and manages gifts to benefit its future ministry. The goal of our fund is to provide income and capital growth for the Parish to support its distinctive ministry and programs. Our policy is to put minimal demands upon the fund so that it may grow and provide the Parish with resources should the Parish face urgent financial need. The fund provides about ten percent of our annual operating budget. The endowment is also essential for capital improvements (such as structural repairs) and for emergencies.

The Vestry administers the fund and has engaged a professional investment advisor for its financial management. Our current fund managers have achieved a return that has outperformed many leading market indices.

Why Make a Gift to the Fund?
The Parish's endowment fund helps to assure the unique character of the Parish, and therefore its ability to proclaim the salvation brought by our Lord Jesus Christ and to glorify Almighty God through traditional prayer book liturgy, excellent church music, and sound preaching.

Donors provide permanent funding for the long term well-being of the Parish so that it can:
  • promote the Gospel and the catholic faith in the nation's capital;
  • continue to glorify Almighty God in its distinguished, traditional liturgy;
  • expand its educational and outreach programs; maintain its architecturally significant and beautiful buildings; and
  • enhance its exemplary music program.

How to Support the Endowment
Since the Prayer Book urges us to leave bequests for religious and charitable uses, all of us should give prayerful consideration to participating in the future of the Parish. You need not be wealthy to make a gift of lasting value to the Parish, and you have a wide variety of options available. You may receive significant tax benefits by making a gift. Gifts may be made in several ways:
  • cash; appreciated property, such as real estate or securities;
  • a bequest in your will or revocable trust; or
  • a charitable remainder trust.
There are, of course, other possibilities.

Wills and Trusts
Specify in your will or trust that your gift is directed to the Church of the Ascension and Saint Agnes Fund and state that your gift be used for the Parish's general purposes. Your gift may bear your name or the name of someone you wish to have remembered. If you have any questions, please contact the parish priest, one of the wardens, or the finance committee chairman.

Growth of the Fund
The generosity of past givers to the Parish, a strong market, and prudent management have allowed the endowment fund to grow. For us to continue to enrich our ministry and to care for our beautiful and historic properties, the endowment fund must continue to grow. The success of the parish depends upon your generosity.

Important Note
The Church of the Ascension and Saint Agnes can not render legal or tax advisory services. Parishioners should act in consultation with their tax advisor, attorney, and the parish priest.
