JOB OPENING: 
Sunday School Teacher
(Part-Time)

The Church of the Ascension and St. Agnes is seeking a warm and passionate teacher to lead Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Godly Play during the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass to fill an immediate opening.

About Our Parish

​​The Church of the Ascension and Saint Agnes is an Anglo-Catholic parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, part of the world-wide Anglican Communion and God's one, world-wide Christian Church. As a community, we are dedicated to providing reverent worship as well as to fostering a warm and welcoming environment for all. In our commitment to these ideals and to our mission "to be followers and friends of Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit, cultivating a thriving faith community by inviting, inspiring, and blessing," we are seeking a warm and passionate teacher to lead weekly Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Godly Play during our 10:30 AM Sunday Mass.

About the Role

Responsibilities
  • Lead weekly Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Godly Play Sunday School classes during the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass.
  • Taylor content to suit the varying needs of a small classroom of one to ten kids between ages 3 and 12.
  • Communicate with parents about upcoming events and topics, as well as their children's progress and needs.
  • Work with Rector and church administration to provide the best learning environment possible.

Qualifications and Qualities
  • Personal maturity, integrity, and respect for the Christian faith and life.
  • Kindness, a love for teaching children, patience, and an ability to balance the needs of kids of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong knowledge of Christian doctrine, especially as it relates to the Episcopal and/or Catholic traditions.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and reliability.
  • Experience leading Sunday School. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Godly Play training is strongly preferred.

A background check will be completed if a position is offered. A “Safe Church, Safe Communities” online learning certificate must be completed (during work hours) within three months of hire.
