JOB OPENING:
Administrative Assistant
(Part-Time)

Church of the Ascension and Saint Agnes is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant (19 hours per week) to help manage the day-to-day operations of the parish. Guided by the parish’s mission, vision, and values, and in light of our Strategic Plan, the Administrative Assistant plays an important role in supporting our clergy, lay leaders, and ministries. This position reports to the Rector.

The role is hybrid. In-person attendance is required on Mondays or Tuesdays and, provided weekly tasks are accomplished, a second day of the employee’s choice. Remaining hours may be fulfilled remotely. The position is semi-flexible and may occasionally include evening or weekend remote work (no more than 3 hours in one week, counted toward that week’s hours) to respond to time-sensitive needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Rector and other clergy, Vestry, Treasurer, ministry leaders, and ministries.
  • Collect and prepare information and announcements for the parish, especially for the Sunday bulletin and the parish website.
  • Help coordinate the cleaning, maintenance, repair, and use of parish facilities and grounds.
  • Support day-to-day financial operations as outlined by the Treasurer and outside accountants.
  • Facilitate the smooth operation of parish information technology, including phones, internet and online applications, and the photocopier.
  • Maintain accurate membership and contact records.
  • Manage supplies and vendors for the office and for ministries (for example, hospitality items for Sunday Coffee Hour).

Qualifications and Qualities
  • Personal maturity, integrity, and respect for the Christian faith and life.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and reliability in meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with good judgment about when to seek guidance.
  • Clear, courteous communication and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Experience in church or non-profit office management or administrative support preferred.
  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Bill.com, QuickBooks, and PayChex is desirable.
  • Experience with ACS or similar church databases is a plus.

A background check will be completed if a position is offered. A “Safe Church, Safe Communities” online learning certificate must be completed (during work hours) within three months of hire.
